Ultrasonic Technology-Based Solution for Accurate Fluid Level Detection in Submarine Applications
The Submarine required a robust, maintenance-f ree, and precise level detection solution to ensure reliable monitoring of f reshwater, seawater, and fuel levels within confined and highpressure compartments such as tanks, bilges, and control spaces.
Conventional mechanical switches and float-based sensors could not sustain performance under extreme conditions, including high humidity, vibration, salinity, and varying temperatures.
The challenge was to design a compact, corrosion-resistant, and marine-grade level switch that ensures fail-safe operation under all sea conditions.
SBEM designed and manufactured Ultrasonic Level Switches (ULS), a customized, marinegrade solution tailored to the specifications. The system ensures accurate detection of liquid presence or absence in submarine tanks while operating reliably in f resh water, sea water, and fuel media.
The Ultrasonic Level Switch works on the ultrasonic pulse transmission and reception principle using piezo-resistive elements:
Designed for continuous underwater operation with ingress protection up to IP68.
Operates f rom -10°C to 50°C and withstands pressures up to 60 bar.
Manufactured in Stainless Steel and Titanium, ensuring long life in saline environments.
Enables onboard verification of switch integrity through the VP-6DR control unit.
Suitable for spaces, bilges, and tanks in submarines or other marine systems.
Tailored designs for varied mounting and temperature needs.
