SBEM’s 151 MFM-B (Battery-Operated Electromagnetic Flow Meter)

Application Location

WTP Inlet Line

Industry

Water Treatment Plant

Background

Every Water Treatment Plant (WTP) relies on accurate measurement of raw water entering the treatment process. The inlet line, coming from the Jackwell, feeds water into the aeration unit where initial treatment begins.

Any mismatch between the raw water drawn and the treated water output can result in significant water loss, operational inefficiencies, and financial impact. Therefore, the plant needed a dependable way to measure actual raw water inflow at the inlet point to:

  • Compare inlet vs outlet water consumption
  • Detect hidden losses in the long-distance transmission
  • Ensure correct accountability of water delivered to the treatment process

This inlet line was located in a remote area where external power was not available, making the measurement challenge even bigger.

Requirement

The customer required a flow measurement solution that could:

  • Monitor actual RAW water consumption at the inlet line
  • Compare losses between Jackwell to WTP inlet to take necessary decisions
  • Operate without external power supply
  • Work reliably in a remote location
  • Transmit flow data automatically to the central monitoring room
  • Provide accurate readings for daily reporting, monitoring, and operational planning

Product Installed

SBEM installed the 151 MFM-B Battery-Operated Electromagnetic Flow Meter, designed specially for remote sites and continuous water monitoring.

  • The meter works without external electrical power, making it ideal for off-grid inlet pipelines.
  • Using GSM/GPRS communication, the meter transmits flow and consumption data directly to the control room.
  • The solution ensures uninterrupted monitoring, even when the flow meter is placed far from plant infrastructure.
  • SBEM ensured seamless data integration so the customer can view inlet readings anytime.

Technology Used

151 MFM-B Key Technologies

  • Electromagnetic Flow Measurement: Highly accurate for raw water
  • Battery-operated design: Long life, no need for power supply
  • GSM/GPRS communication: Remote data transmission
  • Tamper-proof construction: Reliable in outdoor environments
  • IP-rated enclosure: Safe in harsh water utility conditions

Customer Benefits

  • No need for external power at remote locations
  • Automatic remote data availability through GSM/GPRS
  • Accurate inlet vs outlet comparison to detect hidden water losses
  • Continuous water accountability from Jackwell to WTP
  • No manual reading dependency
  • Improved planning for aeration and treatment
  • Enhanced transparency in utility operations

Outcome

The WTP team now gets reliable, real-time raw water consumption data directly from the inlet line. This allows them to:

  • Identify transmission losses
  • Improve water distribution planning
  • Ensure accurate accounting from source to treatment
